New Wave of Foldable Smartphones Hits the Market While Apple Continues Developing Its Foldable iPhone

Foldable smartphones are the current trend, seemingly representing the future of mobile devices. However, not all consumers are ready to embrace this change. More and more manufacturers are venturing into developing their foldable devices, with companies like Samsung already on their 6th generation. Meanwhile, Apple remains in the early stages of developing its foldable iPhone, which is still a couple of years away from becoming a reality.

Recently, ZTE launched its new ZTE nubia Flip 5G, and Motorola introduced the motorola razr 50 and motorola razr 50 ultra to the market. Samsung is also working on the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

Apple has a history of being late to the game with new technology launches. The Cupertino-based company typically waits for its rivals to release products before introducing its own, often with innovative features. This time, however, the wait for Apple’s entry into the foldable market is significantly longer than usual.

A Crowded Market and a Secretive Foldable iPhone Design

Although Apple has filed numerous patents related to the development of its first foldable device, there have been no leaks regarding its design. No prototypes, images, or even CAD files have surfaced, indicating that the launch of the foldable iPhone is unlikely to happen before 2026.

In the meantime, the foldable device market continues to evolve. Companies like Motorola are integrating artificial intelligence into their foldables with the inclusion of Gemini and Gemini Advanced. Their razr series will feature pOLED panels with HDR10+ and a 120 Hz refresh rate, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors.

Apple introduced Apple Intelligence at the 2024 WWDC keynote, but its AI platform will not be available until the end of the year. Initially, it will be compatible only with select iPhone models and available exclusively in the United States before a global rollout. Therefore, once again, we will have to wait.

As we witness an imminent surge of foldable devices in the market, there is still no trace of a foldable iPhone. Some rumors suggest that Apple's first foldable device might not be an iPhone but a phablet combining the design elements of both the iPad and iPhone. Regardless, we are still far from seeing this product.

Apple’s competitors have a significant head start in this technological field. However, Apple has repeatedly shown that it doesn't need to rush to compete effectively. The company often arrives late but delivers superior products. Only time will tell if this strategy will pay off again. What do you think? Will Apple be too late this time?
