Google Introduces India-Focused Security, Payment, and AI Features at the 2024 India Event
Google unveiled several new features for its apps and services during its Google for India 2024 event on Thursday. The company introduced updates to Google Pay, including support for personal and gold loans, and showcased new health-related features developed in collaboration with the healthcare sector. Additionally, Google revealed new tools to detect and protect users from scams, and announced support for Gemini Live with AI-powered search annotations in regional languages.
At the annual Google for India event in Delhi, the tech giant announced improvements to the search experience, including a feature allowing consumers to contact businesses directly via WhatsApp. Previously, listings displayed a phone number for users to call. Google Maps was also updated to provide real-time alerts for floods and fog conditions, according to the company.
Google Pay has been enhanced with support for personal and gold loans through partnerships with Aditya Birla Capital Finance for personal loans and Muthoot Finance for gold loans. With Google's updated limits, customers can now take out personal loans up to Rs. 5 lakh and gold loans up to Rs. 50 lakh.
Google's AI Tools Support Free Cancer and Tuberculosis Detection in India
As part of its DigiKavach initiative, Google claims to have saved users from fraud totaling Rs. 13,000 crore, issuing over 41 million scam warnings to users in 2023. The company also removed more than 170 million fraudulent reviews from Google Maps. Android users in India will soon benefit from an enhanced anti-theft feature that prevents malicious apps from requesting critical permissions.
Google also highlighted new health features developed in partnership with companies like Apollo Hospitals, utilizing Google's deep learning models to enhance diagnostic services. The company's AI tools also facilitate free detection of tuberculosis and cancer in several regions, offering these services at no cost to patients.

Furthermore, Google announced support for Gemini Live in eight languages, including Hindi, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant and receive real-time responses. General AI, which was previously available in Hindi and English, will soon be expanded to four regional languages: Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
