Starlink Refuses to Suspend Social Network X in Brazil
Elon Musk's satellite company, Starlink, has announced that it will not comply with orders to suspend the social network X in Brazil until Judge Alexandre De Moraes lifts the freeze on its accounts.
The news was confirmed by Carlos Baigorri, the president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the entity responsible for notifying more than 20,000 operators in Brazil about the order to suspend X in the country.
Starlink, which provides satellite internet services and has over 215,000 active lines in Brazil, had its accounts frozen by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre De Moraes. This action was taken to ensure that Musk would pay daily fines exceeding one million reais, which were imposed on his other company, X.
The tension between Moraes and Musk dates back several months. It began when the judge ordered the removal of several accounts on X that were linked to far-right groups supporting former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro is under investigation for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Musk refused to comply, accusing Moraes of acting without justification and in a covert manner. In mid-August, Musk closed X's offices in Brazil, claiming it was to "protect his employees," who he said were being threatened with imprisonment by the judge.
With no legal representative of X in Brazil, Judge Moraes decided to freeze Starlink's accounts as well, using this as a means to enforce the payment of the fines imposed on X.

According to Baigorri, Starlink's refusal to comply has been communicated to Judge Moraes. Since early Saturday morning, customers of major telecom operators in Brazil began reporting that access to X was blocked or experiencing issues. As of Sunday, most operators had already restricted access to the platform.
