Artificial Intelligence in an Inclusive Context

As with any technological advancement, the emergence of new tools challenges traditional ways of doing things.

Since Artificial Intelligence (AI) became widespread and familiar to the general public a few years ago, its revolutionary impact has only continued to grow. Whether it’s ChatGPT (from OpenAI), Gemini (from Google), or any other so-called "generative" AI—because they can create and generate something new within a specific context with minimal human intervention—these tools have captivated millions of users.

When used properly, these Large Language Models (LLMs) applied to AI can be incredibly helpful in everyday tasks. Students, for instance, are already using them to enhance their skills, reduce the time needed for calculations, programming, writing, or other activities. While it's crucial to be mindful of their errors and hallucinations, and to consider the sources from which these AIs "learned" (their vast data sets), they offer significant contributions to improving various tasks.

The reality is that this technology is on the rise and will continue to be for some time. Humans and machines have been working together for many years, and AI is no exception. As mentioned, AI can be a valuable tool for everyday life if used correctly, but it also raises future challenges.

In this context, there has been much discussion about the potential for AI to lead to job losses or the transformation of existing roles. Like any technological advancement, the introduction of new tools challenges existing methods and practices.

However, I always choose to take a positive and optimistic view. While there may indeed be job losses, there will also be a transformation of roles. It’s likely that repetitive tasks, which can be replaced by AI, will be the ones most at risk. As with every technological revolution, certain tasks will become obsolete.

The focus should be on addressing new needs and ensuring that society adapts to these changes. There must be a digital agenda that accompanies these shifts in life and society. This change should be gradual, allowing businesses, cities, regions, and countries to adapt their production processes progressively.

Innovation and cyberculture are transforming at a revolutionary pace, and education must facilitate these changes. Schools need to be more flexible, not just preparing students for existing jobs but for the jobs of the future. AI creates a need for adaptation, technical improvement, systems study, and a society that demands new knowledge. This is something that needs to be addressed.

In my years of working in the IT world, I have had the honor of training teachers and educators from around the globe. A common challenge we all face is how to incorporate new technologies into the classroom. This year, on Thursday, September 26, at UAI, we will host the XXII International Congress on Technological Innovation in Informatics, an event that has been held without interruption since 2003.

For 2024, we’ve titled the congress "Innovation: Breaking Barriers with Artificial Intelligence," precisely because it will serve as a catalyst for reflecting on the impact of AI and new technologies in our society. The congress will be entirely free, and anyone can register through this link.
